Technology should adapt to people. Not the other way around.
At UniquelyND, we're building assistive technology that helps remove everyday barriers for different minds. We're starting with communication, helping individuals navigate messages and organizations make information easier to understand and act on.
WHY WE EXIST
People think differently. Technology should make room for that.
A message that feels straightforward to one person can leave someone else unsure what it means or what they're expected to do. These small moments can create real barriers to participation, confidence, and opportunity.
We believe the answer isn't to make everyone communicate, learn, or process information the same way. It's to build technology that offers more ways to understand and take part.
Accessibility is not about making everyone the same. It is about removing barriers so more people can participate.
Recognize different needs.
People bring different experiences, abilities, and ways of processing information.
Make information easier to navigate.
Clearer language and helpful context can reduce unnecessary guesswork.
Keep people in control.
Useful technology supports decisions without making them for someone.
WHERE WE ARE STARTING
Communication is part of almost everything we do.
From a message from a friend to a workplace policy, communication shapes how we connect, make decisions, and find our way forward. But meaning isn't always obvious, and important information isn't always easy to follow.
That's why communication accessibility is our first focus: helping people navigate what they receive and helping organizations improve what they share.
WHAT WE ARE BUILDING
Two tools. Two sides of communication.
We are approaching communication barriers from both sides: the person trying to understand a message and the organization responsible for making information clear.
A little more clarity when a message leaves you unsure.
Ask LINA helps you explore a message's possible tone, intent, and meaning, with context and uncertainty made clear. It offers another perspective, while leaving the judgment with you.
Try Ask LINAFind the barriers in the information you share.
LINA Lens examines communication for characteristics that can make information harder to find, understand, or act on. It helps teams identify where clearer communication may be needed.

OUR APPROACH
We call it Assistive Intelligence.
For us, AI is most valuable when it helps people do things their own way. That means designing for different needs, giving people understandable choices, and being clear about what technology can and cannot know.
Built around people
Start with real barriers and the people experiencing them.
Support, not substitution
Offer useful guidance without taking away choice or judgment.
Open about limitations
Make uncertainty visible and keep testing what works.
THE PEOPLE BEHIND UNIQUELYND
Built from lived experience and a shared belief that things can be easier.
I have always found digital communication stressful. For a long time, I thought the problem was me.
Erica Hayes, Cofounder
UniquelyND was founded by Erica and Ian Hayes, a daughter and father combining lived experience, design, and software development. Together, we want to build tools that reduce barriers people are too often expected to navigate on their own.
The tools we build start with a simple belief: people should not have to change who they are to be included.
